Maria Gabriella Di Benedetto

Maria Gabriella Di Benedetto obtained her Ph.D. in Telecommunications in 1987 from Sapienza University of
Rome. She currently is Full Professor in Telecommunications at Sapienza, and Research Affiliate at the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, MA, USA.
Dr. Di Benedetto’s research interests include speech and wireless communications. She is the author of over 250
scientific publications and several books.
In 2009, she received the Excellence in Research award ‘Sapienza Ricerca’. In 2012, she promoted the startup
“SPinV: Supporting People Indoor: a navigation Venture” that she led as CEO until 2015.
Dr. Di Benedetto is a Fellow of the IEEE.
In 2019, Dr. Di Benedetto was named a 2019–2020 fellow of the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at
Harvard University. As the William Bentinck-Smith Fellow, she developed a project (currently active) that
addresses human speech processing, with relevant implication for the understanding of how human brain
recognizes speech.
