Prof. Dr. Leo Joseph Penta, geboren 1952 in New York, USA, ist katholischer Priester, „Community Organizer“ und Wissenschaftler. Er studierte in den USA, Österreich und Deutschland. Er arbeitete in New York und Philadelphia mit der „Industrial Areas Foundation“ (IAF) zusammen — dem ältesten und renommiertesten Netzwerk für Community Organizing in den USA . Seit 1996 ist er Professor an der Katholischen Hochschule für Sozialwesen Berlin und seit seiner Gründung 2006 Direktor des Deutschen Instituts für Community Organizing (DICO). Er bildet Community Organizer aus und begleitet den Aufbau eines wachsenden Netzwerks von Bürgerplattformen in Berlin (Treptow-Köpenick, Wedding/Moabit, Neukölln) und Köln.
Prof. Dr. Leo J. Penta, born in 1952, is a Catholic priest, community organizer and researcher. He studied in the US, Austria and Germany. He co-founded two internationally known community organizations in the US that belong to the Industrial Areas Foundation Network – the oldest and most renowned Institute for community organizing. From 1996 until 2018 he was a professor at the Catholic University of Applied Sciences in Berlin, Germany and since 2006 founding director of the German Institute for Community Organizing (DICO). He continues to lead the Institute, to train community organizers and to supervise the development of a growing network of broad-based community organizations in Berlin, Cologne and other German cities.
